COVID-19: Vietnam records 7,940 cases, 25,322 recoveries over 24 hours

VOV.VN - Vietnam has confirmed 7,940 COVID-19 cases in 35 cities and provinces across the country, while more than 25,000 patients have been discharged from hospital during the day after a full recovery from the disease.

Of the newly detected infections, 4,550 cases were diagnosed in the community through random testing or test screening, three people tested positive after returning from overseas, and the rest were documented in quarantine or lockdown areas. 

Ho Chi Minh City, the largest coronavirus hotspot in Vietnam, reported 4,372 new cases, topping localities nationwide in infection numbers.

It was followed by Binh Duong, an industrial complex in the south, that registered 2,103 new cases.

Elsewhere, Dong Nai, An Giang and Long An remain hotspots in the south, documenting 626, 172 and 125 cases respectively.

The outbreak is currently showing signs of abating in the central region, with Khanh Hoa registering 30 cases, topping the regional localities.

Ha Nam remains the epicenter of the fresh outbreak in the northern region, logging 45 new cases.

As of 06.00pm on September 30, Vietnam has recorded 790,755 coronavirus cases since the start of the outbreak in January 2020, ranking 44th out of 222 countries and territories across the globe.

It has also confirmed 786,208 cases following the resurgence of the virus in late April.

Notably, as many as 25,322 patients were discharged from hospital during the past 24 hours, raising the total cumulative number of recoveries to 608,831.

The past 24 hours saw Vietnam confirm 159 COVID-19 fatalities, with HCM City and Binh Duong reporting 106 and 30 cases, respectively.

The September 30 figure has raised the COVID-19 death toll in Vietnam to 19,301, making up 2.5% of the total number of infections. 

More than 42 million vaccine doses have been administered nationwide, with nearly 9.5 million people getting full jabs.
