COVID-19: Vietnam detects 5 more imported cases from US, Russia

VOV.VN - The Ministry of Health confirmed on July 22 that another five people returning from coronavirus hit US and Russia have been diagnosed with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, bringing the country’s tally of COVID-19 infections to 401.

All the five newly detected cases are Vietnamese who are among Vietnamese citizens repatriated from the United States and Russia due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

One of them, a 58-year-old woman, boarded a VN1 flight from the US to Vietnam’s Van Don International Airport on July 16. She was quarantined at a military camp in Hai Duong province upon her arrival.

She tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus by a local medical centre and the test results were confirmed by the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology on July 21.

The patient was transferred to the Hai Duong Hospital of Tropical Diseases for medical observation and treatment.

The remaining four patients, aged 24 and 25, took the VN5062 flight to Vietnam from Russia on July 17, transiting through Belarus.

Upon arriving at Van Don International Airport, they were quarantined at a military camp in Hoa Binh province.

They tested positive for COVID-19 on July 18 and the results were confirmed by the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology on July 21.

The patients were transferred to the Hoa Binh General Hospital for medical observation and treatment.

Earlier on July 21 the Ministry of Health announced 12 Vietnamese returnees from Russia on board the same VN5062 flight had been infected with the virus.

As a result, Vietnam has recorded a total of 401 coronavirus cases since the first infection was confirmed in January. No deaths have been reported.

Of the total figure, 365 patients have fully recovered from the disease, making up 91%.

The remaining 36 cases are receiving treatment at different medical centres across the country, with one of them having tested negative once. They are all in stable health condition.

According to the Ministry of Health, Vietnam has gone through 97 days in a row without new locally transmitted infections.
