COVID-19: Vietnam confirms another locally transmitted infection
VOV.VN - Another local resident of Da Nang City, central Vietnam, has been diagnosed with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, bringing the country’s tally of coronavirus infections to 418, the Ministry of Health said in its July 26 update.
All residents living near the house of the patient confirmed on July 25 in Lien Chieu district are required to have body temperature checked
The patient, 61, living in Thanh Binh ward, Hai Chau district, tested positive midnight July 25. He is on a ventilator in the intensive care unit of Da Nang Hospital.
Da Nang has quickly moved to conduct epidemiological investigations, zone off affected areas, trace contact and quarantine suspect cases in order to contain the possible recurrence of the virus.
The Ministry of Health has established three special working groups to assist Da Nang with prevention work.
This is the second infection that has been confirmed in Da Nang during the past two days. The source of infection is still unknown, and it is not clear if he is related to the first case in Da Nang on July 25.
The first case, a 57-year-old man, who was confirmed on July 25, lives in Lien Chieu district.
He is in critical condition. Suffering respiratory failure, he is undergoing the extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), a life support machine, in the intensive care unit of Da Nang Hospital.
Local authorities identified 288 out of nearly 1,100 quarantined people in close contact with the patient.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on July 25 appealed for calm and asked local residents to strictly abide by epidemic prevention and control. He ordered the healthcare sector to mobilise all resources to save the patient.
Vietnam has so far recorded 418 coronavirus cases since the first infection was found in January. Of the total, 365 patients have fully recovered from the disease.
The remaining 53 cases are receiving treatment at different medical centres across the country, with 8 cases having tested negative for the virus.
