COVID-19: Two returnees from the US infected with virus
VOV.VN - Two Vietnamese citizens returning from the US have been diagnosed with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, bringing the country’s tally of coronavirus infections to 1,124, the Ministry of Health reported on October 15 afternoon.
The two citizens took flight VN0001 from the US to Vietnam on October 11. They were quarantined in Hung Yen province upon their arrival at Van Don International Airport, northern Vietnam.
Both tested positive for the virus on October 13 and their results were confirmed by the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology the following day.
They were then transferred to the Hanoi-based Hospital of Tropical Diseases for medical observation and treatment.
Vietnam has gone through 43 consecutive days without new locally transmitted coronavirus cases. It has sporadically detected cases returning from epidemic hit countries.
Tens of thousands of Vietnamese citizens stranded overseas due to COVID-19 have been repatriated home under the Prime Minister’s direction.
Local airlines are arranging many other repatriation flights to bring home more Vietnamese nationals, and the number of coronavirus infections is expected to keep rising in the coming time.
In addition, incoming foreign nationals who are experts, managers and highly skilled workers have also been found to carry the virus when entering Vietnam.
So far Vietnam has recorded a total of 1,124 coronavirus cases, including 1,030 recoveries and 35 deaths.
