COVID-19: Two more cases take Vietnam’s tally to 1,046

VOV.VN - Vietnam has confirmed two more coronavirus cases, including one locally-transmitted infection, during the past 12 hours, bringing the country’s total number of infections to 1,046.

A 72-year-old man in Hai Duong province’s Gia Loc district tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus after showing virus symptoms such as a fever, a headache and exhaustion. The source of infection is still unknown.

Currently, the patient is being quarantined at Hanoi’s Hospital of Tropical Diseases for observation and treatment.  

Meanwhile, an imported case was registered in Khanh Hoa province, central Vietnam. The 30-year-old patient of Thai Binh province is a sailor on board Nippon Maru cargo ship.

The sailor was quarantined and tested for COVID-19 after the ship docked at Nha Trang port on August 30. His positive status was confirmed by Nha Trang Pasteur Institute on September 2.

As of 18.00hrs September 2, Vietnam has recorded 691 cases of community transmission, including 551 cases registered since the virus resurged in Vietnam on July 25.

Doctors have discharged from hospital 746 out of 1,046 patients after they had made a full recovery from the disease. September 2 alone saw 11 patients return to their places of residence.

Among nearly 300 active patients, 117 have tested negative for the virus at least once.

To date, 34 coronavirus deaths have been reported in Vietnam and most of them suffer from underlying illnesses.

Doctors said currently there are 8 severe and critically ill patients who are tied to death risk at any time.
