COVID-19: Two further new cases boost infection tally to 1,040
VOV.VN - The Health Ministry on August 29 confirmed two fresh cases of novel coronavirus infection over the past 12 hours, taking the total figure to 1,040 whilst the death toll climbed to 32 following two additional fatalities.
Of the two new infections, one is imported case returning from Germany to Tan Son Nhat Airport on flight VN5063, and the other is a patient being treated at Da Nang Hospital.
Among the overall figure for infections, the number of locally-transmitted cases is 690, whilst there have been a further 350 imported cases which were immediately placed into quarantine upon entry into the country.
Furthermore, the number of infections linked to Da Nang, the country’s most serious COVID-19 outbreak hotspot, has risen to 550 since July 25.
Moreover, an additional 14 people who had been diagnosed with COVID-19 were released from hospital after going on to make a full recovery, boosting the country’s total number of recoveries to 677.
Aside from additional recoveries, August 29 also saw the nation record two more COVID-19 related deaths, with one deceased individual being a resident of Quang Nam, whilst the other case involved a Da Nang resident. Both had been suffering from a number of pre-existing chronic diseases and severe pneumonia caused by COVID-19.
According to figures released by the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, among the active cases currently receiving treatment, a total of 124 have gone on to test negative for the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes the COVID-19 at least once.
Following these latest updates, the country's overall COVID-19 tally stands at 1,040, with 32 individuals passing away due to various chronic conditions coupled with COVID-19 related complications.
Most notably, a total of 61,100 people who came into close contact with cases or who had recently returned from epidemic-hit areas are being held in quarantine to undergo health monitoring, of whom more than 1,363 individuals are being put in concentrated isolation facilities at hospitals. The remaining cases are undergoing a period of self-isolation at home or at their various places of residence.
Meanwhile, Da Nang on the morning of August 29 held a farewell meeting to extend thanks to 60 health expert and doctors from Binh Dinh and Thua Thien Hue provinces who had provided support for the central city in the fight against the pandemic.
Nguyen Van Quang, permanent deputy secretary of the Da Nang City's Party Committee, expressed his profound gratitude to the medical team and doctors of Binh Dinh and Thua Thien Hue provinces for their efforts to join with his locality in order to combat the epidemic.
