COVID-19: Three foreigners infected with SARS-CoV-2

VOV.VN - Three foreign citizens have been diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 upon arriving in Vietnam from Taiwan (China) and India, bringing the country’s cumulative infection tally to 1,077.

Two of the new infections are Taiwanese experts who entered Vietnam from China via Huu Nghi (Friendship) international border gate in Lang Son province on September 18.

Both tested positive for the virus on September 27 and are now receiving treatment at Hanoi-based Hospital of Tropical Diseases.

Meanwhile, the third case, an Indian expert, took 6E8979 flight from India to Hanoi capital of Vietnam on September 13.

The 48-year-old man tested positive on September 28 and was immediately transferred to Hanoi-based Hospital of Tropical Diseases for medical observation and treatment.

All the newly detected cases were quarantined as soon as they entered Vietnam, therefore posing no coronavirus risks to the community, the Ministry of Health said in its September 28 update.

Vietnam has reported no new locally transmitted coronavirus cases for the past 26 consecutive days. All COVID-19 outbreaks in cities and provinces have been brought under control.

Vietnam has so far recorded 1,074 COVID-19 cases, of whom 999 patients have gone on to make a full recovery, representing 93% of the total. The countrywide death toll caused by the disease has remained at 35. Of the 40 remaining cases, 19 patients have since tested negative for the virus at least once.
