COVID-19: Six more cases in current hotspots lift total to 1,022

VOV.VN - Vietnam recorded an additional six cases of COVID-19, including four in the central city of Da Nang and two in the northern province of Hai Duong- the two localities that remain the nation’s coronavirus outbreaks.

Of the new patients detected in Da Nang, two are medical workers at the Da Nang Hospital, one is a market goer, and another had close contact with a COVID-19 patient.

The remaining two infections in Hai Duong are also cases that came into close contact with coronavirus infected people.

With the new infections, the nation’s total novel coronavirus (COVID-19) cases climbed to 1,022 on August 24, including 680 local transmissions, and 540 linked to the outbreak in Da Nang, the nation’s COVID-19 epicentre since July 25, whilst 342 cases were imported and placed into quarantine immediately after entering the country.

Among the positive cases currently receiving treatment, 52 have tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 once, and 94 others have tested negative at least twice.

The same day, a total 20 COVID-19 patients were declared to have fully recovered from the disease, boosting the national tally of recoveries to 588.

Most notably, there has been 70,620 people in quarantine nationwide, with more than 1,990 individuals at hospitals, whilst the remainder are at other quarantine facilities or at home.

With the country's COIVD-19 tally now standing at 1,022, 27 coronavirus patients have died as a result of severe chronic diseases and COVID-19 related complications.

Elsewhere, the Quang Ngai provincial People's Committee on the morning of August 24 allowed restaurants, cafes, and many other services to re-open after being forced to be shut for a month due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This decision was made due to the province recording no fresh cases in the community for a period of 16 days. The Quang Ngai People's Committee stated that, in addition to opening catering services, entertainment, and sports activities, both tourism and educational institutions will also be allowed to operate again without holding large events.
