COVID-19: One imported case, 22nd fatality recorded on August 15 morning
VOV.VN - The Ministry of Health on August 15 morning confirmed one more new imported case returning from Russia and one COVID-19 related death over the past 12 hours, taking the national infection tally to 930 and the fatality count to 22.
The latest imported case is a female patient, 41, with address in Minh Thuan commune, Vu Ban district, Nam Dinh province. She had previously recovered from the disease in Russia on June 24, 2020. On August 10, the patient entered Van Don Airport on flight VN5062 from Russia and was immediately isolated in Nam Dinh.
On August 11, the patient was sampled for testing by the Center for Disease Control of Nam Dinh province with a suspected result. On August 13, her sample was sent to the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology for testing and the result on August 14 came back positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus. She is currently put into isolation to receive treatment at the General Hospital of Nam Dinh province.
In the morning of the same day, the Ministry of Health also announced the 22nd death due to COVID-19 who was a 63 year- old male patient in Da Nang and had suffered multiple comorbidities, end-stage renal failure, dialysis for many years, hypertension, and heart failure.
Diagnosis of his death included septic shock, multi-organ failure, COVID-19 pneumonia, and end-stage chronic renal failure.
With the latest update, the country reported 930 COVID-19 cases in total, including 329 imported ones, 461 related to the central city of Da Nang since July 25, and 22 fatalities relating to COVID-19.
Of the total positive cases, 437 patients have declared to be free from COVID-19 with a recovery rate of 47%. Among the cases in treatment, 50 have tested negative once and 91 others at least twice.
Currently, more than 115,850 people who had contact with COVID-19 patients and returned from abroad have been put in isolation for medical surveillance at medical centres, concentrated quarantine facilities and places of residence.
Since July 25, when the nation’s first locally-transmitted in more than three months was found in central Da Nang city, outbreaks have occurred across 15 localities, all associated with Da Nang, the country’s current coronavirus hotspot. The central city alone has registered 325 cases during the period.
At a recent meeting of the Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, acting Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long said the Ministry of Health is working hand in hand with Da Nang and Quang Nam to speed up sampling progress, and expand testing scale in the community. The ministry is set to bring the epidemic situation under control by the end of August.
