Ministry of Health statistics show this is the first time Vietnam has confirmed no new infections in the country in the past 36 hours.

A total of 268 people have been infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus since the first one was detected in late January. Of the figure, 160 entered Vietnam from epidemic-hit countries, while the remaining 108 acquired community infection.

Notably, 198 patients have fully recovered and left hospital, outstripping the number of patients now being treated in hospitals nationwide.

April 17 alone saw 21 patients discharged from hospital, including 17 in Hanoi, three in Tra Vinh province and one in Ninh Binh province.

Hanoi is the most affected locality in the country, with 132 cases confirmed, followed by Ho Chi Minh City (55) and Vinh Phuc province (12).

Many provinces and cities are now coronavirus free, namely Tra Vinh, Binh Thuan, Da Nang, Dong Thap, Thua Thien-Hue, Ninh Thuan, Can Tho, Quang Nam, Khanh Hoa, Hai Duong, Bac Ninh, Ben Tre and Quang Ninh.

Currently, doctors are treating the remaining 70 COVID-19 patients, with most of them in stable condition. Thirteen cases have tested negative for the first time and four cases have tested negative for the second time.

Nearly 74,000 people are being placed in quarantine for health observation, including 324 at hospitals, more than 11,500 at concentrated quarantine facilities and the remainder at places of their residence.
