COVID-19: Four new infections recorded in HCM City on Feb.8 morning
VOV.VN - Four staff members of Ho Chi Minh City-based Tan Son Nhat Airport were confirmed to contract the SARS-CoV-2 virus by the Ministry of Health on February 8 morning, bringing the infection tally to 2,005 in Vietnam.
The new cases are in the same group of an infected patient and had close contact with each other. They are currently being isolated to undergo treatment at Cu Chi Field Hospital.
Of the total figure, 1,115 are locally transmitted, including 422 infections in the community since the resurgence of the pandemic in northern Hai Duong and Quang Ninh provinces late last month.
One day earlier, the Subcommittee for Treatment reported that four more COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospital, taking the total recoveries to 1,472. The number of deaths related to the disease remained at 35.
However, a COVID-19 patient in the central city of Da Nang city was earlier reported to be in critical condition while there were four other seriously-ill COVID-19 patients in Hanoi and Quang Ninh.
Among patients receiving treatment at medical establishments, 17 tested negative for the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 once, six twice and two thrice.
The director of the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control (HCDC) stated that on the evening of February 7, medical centers based in 24 districts in the southern city conducted taking samples of Tan Son Nhat airport staff for re-testing.
This came after a locally transmitted case was confirmed and four others were suspected.
On the afternoon of February 7, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) requested airports to deploy stronger COVID-19 prevention and control measures and be place on full alert.
By far, Vietnam has registered 2,005 coronavirus cases since the pandemic broke out in the nation in late January 2020, with Hai Duong remaining the biggest COVID-19 hotspot with 309, followed by its neighbor Quang Ninh with 47.
