COVID-19 attacks 13th locality in Vietnam

VOV.VN - The Ministry of Health has confirmed the first two coronavirus infections in Hung Yen province, a gateway to Hanoi capital and a neighbour of Hai Duong province, the country’s biggest coronavirus hotspot at present.

Both cases are women aged 38 and 69 living in Yen My district of Hung Yen province.

Hung Yen is the latest locality in Vietnam where the virus has been found.

In its 18.00hrs update, the Ministry of Health also announced 11 other locally transmitted coronavirus infections and three imported cases.

Six community cases were recorded in Hai Duong province, two in Hanoi, two in Ho Chi Minh City, and one in Gia Lai province.

Among the three imported cases, one is a 43-year-old expert of Costa Rica. The man flew to Vietnam on January 24 from the US, transiting through Hong Kong.

The other two cases are Vietnamese citizens, returning to the homeland from the US and Japan.

The virus has spread to 13 cities and provinces across the country since it recurred in late January 2021. As many as 483 community cases have been since confirmed, with Hai Duong alone registering 327 cases.
