COVID-19: 38 out of 40 new local transmissions recorded in Hai Duong

VOV.VN - The Ministry of Health on February 16 afternoon confirmed an additional 40 new COVID-19 community infections, raising the overall national count to 2,311, of which 1,412 were locally transmitted cases.

Among the latest cases, 38 are in the current hotspot of Hai Duong, where social distancing measures have been imposed across the entire province since 00:00 a.m. on February 16. The two remaining cases were found in Hanoi and the northern province of Quang Ninh.

Most of the new cases are F1 of previously confirmed patients and had already been place in quarantine, thus posing no high risk of local transmission among the wider community.

With 539 locally transmitted cases detected by far, Hai Duong remains the biggest coronavirus hotbed in the nation.

The same day, a further 6 COVID-19 patients were released from hospital, boosting the total number of recoveries to 1,573.

Among patients currently receiving treatment, 37 have tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 once, with the remainder recording negative results either two or three times.

Among the 13 pandemic-hit provinces and cities nationwide, Hai Duong has been the most affected by the latest rise in cases, with four major outbreaks, namely in Chi Linh, Cam Giang, Kinh Mon, and Nam Sach.

In an effort to cope with complicated developments relating to the outbreaks in Hai Duong, especially those occurring industrial zones, the provincial Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control has asked the National Steering Committee and the Ministry of Health to help the locality with testing. This is along with providing enough medical equipment in order to serve in the fight against the pandemic.

Furthermore, as a means of ensuring there are enough resources available for COVID-19 treatment for the growing number of patients, Hai Duong also requested that the Ministry of Health supports the establishment of more COVID-19 testing sites. This should be done alongside boosting the screening capacity for COVID-19 to increase the ability of health agencies to contain the pandemic.
