COVID-19: 213 new cases recorded over six hours, daily count at 402

VOV.VN - Vietnam has confirmed an additional 213 coronavirus cases in six localities during the past six hours, raising its daily count to 402, a record high figure, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH).

Of the newly-detected cases, 210 were locally acquired in Bac Giang (138), Ho Chi Minh City (38), Bac Ninh (21), Binh Duong (12) and Lang Son (1).

Most of the infections were in quarantine and lockdown areas, said the MoH in its 06.00pm COVID-19 update.

Alongside hotspots Bac Giang and HCM City, the virus has spread rapidly to Binh Duong province, a gateway to HCM City, forcing the local administration to impose social distancing on a township.

Notably, some of the 12 confirmed cases work at industrial parks in Binh Duong, raising public concerns about the widespread transmission of the virus in the community.

Relevant forces are speeding up contact tracing and quarantine those in direct and indirect contact with the patients.

Earlier, 118 more cases were documented at noon and another 71 cases in the morning, raising the 24-hour caseload to 402.

The same day, the MoH announced three imported cases, returning to Vietnam from Japan and through international land border gates. These patients were placed in quarantine upon their arrival, thus posing no risk to the community.

The fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic which started in late April has attacked 40 cities and provinces across the country, with 7,996 cases confirmed.

Overall, Vietnam has logged a total of 11,212 cases, both locally transmitted and imported infections, since the SARS – CoV - 2 virus emerged in January 2020.

Sixty-one COVID-19 deaths have been reported, including 26 cases during the latest outbreak.

More than 4,543 COVID-19 patients have been discharged from hospital after making a full recovery from the disease.
