COVID-19: 20 more new cases, another COVID-19 death confirmed
VOV.VN - The afternoon of August 15 saw the Ministry of Health confirm an additional 20 fresh coronavirus infections, and another coronavirus-related fatality, bringing the overall number of infections to 950, and death toll to 23 in Vietnam.
Of the total latest cases, there are 4 in Quang Nam, 11 in Da Nang, 1 in Hai Duong and 4 cases of entry in Ho Chi Minh City.
The infections in central Da Nang city and nearby Quang Nam province are primarily patients, care takers and those having close contact with previously infected people.
The four imported cases detected in HCM City landed at Tan Son Nhat Airport from the US on flight OAE423 on August 4, and were quarantined immediately after entry at Cu Chi Field Hospital.
The second fatality of the day was a 75 year- old Da Nang resident who had previously suffered from chronic renal failure, hemodialysis, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and heart failure.
The patient, died at the Hoa Vang district health center in Da Nang, was diagnosed with of pneumonia complications caused by COVID-19, severe respiratory failure, septic shock in chronic renal failure, dialysis, hypertension, and type 2 diabetes.
As of 18:00 August 15, Vietnam registered a total of 950 cases of COVID-19, of which 437 patients were fully recovered from the disease, 23 patients died of severe underlying diseases and COVID-19.
Of the 490 active patients being treated nationwide, 50 have had first negative test results with the SARS-CoV-2 virus and 91 reported negative results at least twice.
Over 115,850 people are in quarantine, with more than 4,100 at hospitals, and the remainders at other quarantine facilities and at home.
Meanwhile, according to Vice Chairman of People's Committee Ngo Van Quy, Head of the Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control in Hanoi, the current epidemic situation in the capital remains complicated with 30 infection cases being detected in recent days, including 22 imported cases and eight cases of local transmission.
"The municipal Department of Health has collected 26,208 samples, equivalent to about 5,000 samples per day, slower than the expected level of 10,000 samples per day, due to the shortage of samples. However, a sufficient supply of samples will be ensured over the coming days and this work is set to be completed next week. Among the samples tested, 18,423 have reported negative results so we can rest assured of the source of infection with the city", Vice Chairman Ngo Van Quy said.
The coming ten days will mark the height of the capital's fight against the latest COVID-19 wave, therefore, Hanoi must adopt strong countermeasures aimed at slowing the potential spread of the virus, he added.
