He has become the 10th relapse case in Ho Chi Minh City and the 15th in Vietnam, according to health authorities.

The HCM City Department of Health said on May 5 the patient has been transferred to the city’s Cu Chi field hospital for medical observation and treatment.

His relatives and those who had come into close contact with the patients have also been transferred to a concentrated quarantine camp in District No2 for coronavirus testing.

The boy returned to Vietnam from the Czech Republic on March 14 and was later confirmed to carry the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes the COVID-19 disease while he was in quarantine.

He was treated at the HCM City Children’s Hospital and was declared coronavirus free on April 10.

So far HCM City has reported 10 relapse cases after being discharged from hospital. Except for the boy, seven out of nine others were closely linked to Buddha Bar – a coronavirus hotspot in the city’s District No2.

Due to an increasing number of relapse cases, HCM City has decided to test all recovered patients on a daily basis for 30 days since the discharge from hospital.

During the 14-day quarantine period at home, the patients are required to wear face masks, stay indoors and not contact others. Failing to follow such regulations, they will be forced to be transferred to a concentrated quarantine camp.

As of May 15, Vietnam has recorded 15 relapse cases, including two patients who were released from hospital for the second time the same day.

Health professionals said it is unlikely that healthy people will be infected with the virus from relapse cases.
