COVID-19: 10 more new cases recorded, all linked to Da Nang

VOV.VN - Vietnam’s positive COVID-19 cases rose to 652 after the Ministry of Health announced 10 more patients contracted the novel coronavirus on the morning of August 4, with 7 people in central Da Nang city and 3 others in neighboring Quang Nam.

The three patients in the central province of Quang Nam, numbered 643-645, are between 35 and 67 years of age and all of them are patients of Da Nang Hospital.

The seven patients (646- 652) in Da Nang, aged between 30 and 68, included one medical worker alongside five patients at Da Nang Hospital, and one patient having close contact with infected people known as F1.

The newly detected patients boost the number of infected cases connected to the outbreak in Da Nang to 205. Among the overall number of active cases confirmed so far, 307 were imported ones and were placed in isolation immediately upon arrival.

One day earlier, a 58-year-old woman in treatment in the northern province of Hai Duong was announced COVID-19 free, taking the country’s total number of recoveries to 374, representing a recovery rate of 57.4%.

Among those who are receiving treatment, nine have tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 once and 12 negative at least twice. Meanwhile, more than 133,270 people are put isolation, including 1,258 people at hospitals and the remainder at quarantine camps or at home.

Since the discovery of the first community infection in Da Nang after more than three months, the number of locally-transmitted infections nationwide has kept rising, with Da Nang taking the top spot with 142 cases, trailed by Quang Nam with 44.

Since July 31, Vietnam has recorded six fatalities relating to COVID-19 aged between 53 and 86, and all had suffered underlying health issues and chronic diseases.

According to the Ministry of Health, 13 COVID-19 patients in treatment are in critical condition, with 10 being put on a ventilator.

Amidst the complicated developments following the latest COVID-19 outbreak in hospitals based in Da Nang, the Ministry of Health has order stronger prevention and control of coronavirus transmission at medical facilities.

All health facilities were asked to impose social distancing at crowded places of medical establishments, minimize the number of caretakers, and create airy environment in patient rooms. In addition, localities must fully carry out electronic health declaration or electronic health records as soon as possible, it said.

The Ministry of Health has also affirmed its readiness to respond to the COVID-19 epidemic in Da Nang hotspot, with home isolation measures for local residents.
