COVID-19: 10 more locally transmitted infections detected in Vietnam

VOV.VN - The Ministry of Health (MoH) on May 3 announced 19 more coronavirus cases, including 10 locally transmitted infections in hotspots Vinh Phuc and Ha Nam provinces.

Vinh Phuc, a gateway to Hanoi capital, recorded eight community infections closely linked to a Chinese case detected few days ago.

According to the MoH, five staff of Hoa Sen spa in Vinh Yen city of Vinh Phuc province were diagnosed with the SARS-CoV-2 virus after coming into close contact with the Chinese expert.

Three others of Vinh Yen city were closely tied to the fresh coronavirus outbreak at Sunny bar where the Chinese man had visited.

Earlier on May 2 Vinh Phuc announced that five local staff of Sunny bar had been infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus after they contacted a group of Chinese experts, including one who was later confirmed by Chinese authorities as a COVID-19 patient.

Meanwhile, Ha Nam province, another coronavirus hotspot where the virus recurred on April 28, reported two more cases that were closely related to the cluster of infections in the locality.

Since the virus recurred on April 28 in Ha Nam province, 25 cases have been found in five cities and provinces in Vietnam.

The same day, the MoH also confirmed nine imported cases returning from epidemic hit countries worldwide. One of the imported cases was an Egyptian expert who arrived in Vietnam on May 1 from Dubai.

All the nine patients were placed in quarantine as soon as they arrived, thus posing no risk to the community, said the MoH.

In other developments:

  • Hanoi capital has decided to temporarily close schools as of May 4 until further notice
  • A Da Nang hospital has been locked down after a patient was diagnosed with the virus
  • Yen Bai city has been placed under a social distancing order as of 00.00hrs May 3, 2021
