Couple detained for employing 10 overstaying Bangladeshis in HCM City

VOV.VN - Ho Chi Minh City Police have arrested a married couple accused of organising the illegal stay of 11 Bangladeshi nationals, most of whom had overstayed their temporary residence permits while working at the couple’s company.

Vy Van Linh, 38, director of Thuy Moc Phat Upholstery Interior Decoration Co., Ltd., and his wife Tran Thi Hien, 38, the company’s accountant, have been prosecuted for organising others to stay in Vietnam illegally, police said on May 6.

The case was uncovered during routine monitoring of foreign residents. Police officers inspected an apartment on DH604 Street in late November 2025 after detecting suspicious activity involving multiple foreign nationals.

They found 11 Bangladeshi nationals staying at the premises without temporary residence registration or valid travel documents. Of these, 10 had exceeded their permitted duration of stay in Vietnam.

Investigators determined the couple were fully aware of the foreigners’ illegal residency status but still arranged accommodation, daily transportation, employment and salary payments for profit.

Police said the couple’s actions violated regulations on organising the illegal stay of foreigners in Vietnam.

Authorities have urged individuals, organisations, and businesses to strictly comply with regulations governing the entry, exit, transit, and residence of foreign nationals.

Enterprises employing foreign workers are required to complete all necessary procedures, including visa sponsorship and work permit applications. Any suspected violations should be promptly reported to competent authorities for guidance and handling in accordance with the law.
