Congestion hits HCM City as people return after Tet

VOV.VN -Large numbers of people returning to Ho Chi Minh City after visiting their hometowns during the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday saw serious traffic jams hit national highways on the morning of February 11.

As early as 1a.m. on February 11 thousands of people began flooding the roads, travelling from An Giang and Dong Thap provinces into Ho Chi Minh City. This resulted in slow-moving traffic on highways.
Travel on National Highway 1 was difficult throughout the morning.
Many motorbike and car drivers chose to take a nap at hammock cafés dotted along the road rather than face the congestion.

Those travelling during the morning experienced serious congestion on National Highway 1 in Cai Be district, Tien Giang province.
Similar scenes could also be seen on Ben Luc Bridge in Long An province.

Traffic police officers were stationed at points on roads and highways to handle the heavy traffic jams as they occurred.
