Community case detected, massive COVID-19 testing underway in Hai Duong
VOV.VN - The northern province of Hai Duong, a gateway to Hanoi, moved to carry out massive COVID-19 testing after a locally transmitted coronavirus case was detected in the province.
Pham Duy Tuyen, director of the Hai Duong provincial Centre for Diseases Control (CDC) said on January 28 the locality is implementing urgent preventive measures following a community case announced by the Ministry of Health the same day.
The female patient dubbed patient 1552, works for Pyoun electronic Co. Ltd. at Cong Hoa industrial park in Hai Duong’s Chi Linh district. She had close contact with a woman who was confirmed a COVID-19 patient upon her arrival in Osaka, Japan.
Patient 1552 was said to be closely tied to a new variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus found in the United Kingdom, which is 70% more transmissible.
There would be many people who had contact with the two cases, said Tuyen, adding the CDC Hai Duong will work closely with relevant agencies to immediately track down and quarantine suspect cases.
The CDC Hai Duong will conduct massive testing to assess the nature and extent of the outbreak in order to adopt timely measures, said Tuyen.
Local authorities scrambled to lock down Kim Dien village where patient 1552 lives and a production workshop where the patient works as a primary preventive measure.
The Ministry of Health dispatched a contingent of specialists to Hai Duong to assist the locality with preventive measures.
Hai Duong was one of the coronavirus hotspots when the second COVID-19 outbreak was recorded in August 2020.
