Climate change adaptation discussed at regional forum
All climate change programmes need to be integrated into national development policies to raise their effectiveness, said Vietnamese representatives at the 3rd Asia-Pacific Climate Change Adaptation Forum in the Republic of Korea.
They should also be popularised to get everyone involved in the effort, the Vietnamese delegates voiced at the forum, which opened on March 18.
The Vietnamese delegation to the event consists of officials from the Vietnam Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Environment, and the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho’s Centre for Climate Change Response.
Up to 500 participants from international organisations and institutes, and 60 countries’ academies and international organisations in the Asia-Pacific region are attending the three-day forum.
They are expected to share experiences and work out specific, efficient strategies and action plans to the ongoing combat against climate change.
The event was jointly held by the Korea Environment Institute (KEI) and the authorities of the RoK’s Incheon city with support from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Institute for Global Environment Strategies (IGES) and the Stockholm Environment Institute (Stockholm- S EI).
The 1st and 2nd Asia-Pacific Climate Change Adaptation Forum took place in Thailand in 2010 and 2012.
