Classes suspended in northern localities as Typhoon Wipha nears landfall
VOV.VN - Numerous northern provinces and educational institutions have temporarily suspended classes to safeguard students and staff as Typhoon Wipha, the third storm to form over the East Sea this year, is approaching landfall.

As of midnight on July 21, the storm's center was about 374 km east of the Quang Ninh–Hai Phong coastline, packing sustained winds of level 9–10 and gusts of up to level 12.
The Hai Phong Department of Education and Training called for heightened preparedness, urging schools to suspend in-person classes, notify teachers, staff, students, and parents to stay alert, follow storm safety guidelines, and avoid unnecessary travel or outdoor gatherings.
Many schools in northern coastal Hai Phong city had already begun implementing precautionary measures from the morning of July 20, including securing school grounds and preparing safety plans for facilities. Institutions with boarding and semi-boarding arrangements also developed contingency plans to ensure student safety in all possible scenarios.
Following the department’s instructions, schools across all levels in Hai Phong quickly issued public notices to suspend teaching and learning activities until further notice.
In a similar move, the Department of Education and Training in northern Thanh Hoa province instructed schools to prepare for the relocation of equipment, desks, and other materials to safer locations to minimize risks to life and property.
Meanwhile, the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam in Hanoi announced the suspension of all summer term classes on July 21–22. The academy’s training department is closely monitoring weather conditions and will provide further updates as necessary.
