Chinese national given life sentence for illegal drugs transport

The Lang Son provincial People’s Court on December 3 gave life sentence to Lu Ye Huang, a Chinese national, on charges of illegal cross-border transport of drugs.
According to an indictment issued by the provincial People’s Procuracy, 41-year-old Lu entered Vietnam via the HuuNghi Border Gate on April 12, 2014 with an electric bike carrying a carton which contains nearly 5 kg of drugs.
Apart from serving life imprisonment, Lu will have to pay a fine of VND10 million (US$440).
Earlier in November, local security forces arrested two persons transporting 10kg of methamphetamine from China into Vietnam.
The arrested are Be Thi Niem from Trieu Au commune, PhucHoa district, Cao Bang province and Hoang Van Phong, from Bao Lam commune, Cao Loc district, Lang Son province.
They admitted to have bought the methamphetamine from China for domestic consumption.
