Chinese crew member suffering stroke at sea rescued in Vietnam

VOV.VN - A Chinese crew member who suffered a stroke at sea has been successfully rescued and brought ashore for further treatment by Vietnamese doctors.

The Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center reported that early on October 20 it received information from the captain of the AMIS STAR, a Liberian-flagged vessel, stating that one crew member aboard the vessel was in need of emergency treatment following a stroke.

The crew member, Zhu Mingyue, 54, was said to be experiencing a sudden spike in blood pressure, slurred speech, and difficulty moving.

The vessel, that was en route from Singapore to China, was redirected to Vung Tau and requested urgent assistance to bring Zhu ashore for emergency medical care.

Under the direction of the National Committee for Disaster Incident Response, Search and Rescue, the center dispatched the specialized search and rescue vessel SAR 413, stationed in Vung Tau, along with a doctor to urgently reach the AMIS STAR.

At around 4p.m. the Chinese patient was provided with first aid and then transferred to the SAR 413 vessel for a rapid journey back to shore.

Thanks to timely assistance, the patient overcame the critical condition and was taken to the France-Vietnam Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City for further emergency care and treatment.
