China-Vietnam cross-border tourism grows with AI training and application cooperation

VOV.VN - The 2026 China-Vietnam cross-border tourism exchange and cooperation programme on the application of artificial intelligence (AI) concluded on April 19 in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China, with nearly 30 representatives from Vietnamese tourism management agencies and travel operators completing

The programme, themed “China-Vietnam Cross-Border Tourism Exchange and Cooperation with AI+”, was co-organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and the Departments of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ninh, Lang Son, Cao Bang and Tuyen Quang provinces of Vietnam.

Within the programme, experts from both sides provided training on tourism policies, smart tourism operations and the use of AI in sector management, helping participants improve their capacity to optimise operations, develop tourism products, build brands and improve service quality. The participants also undertook field visits to study Guangxi’s digital tourism service model.

In recent years, China-Vietnam cross-border tourism cooperation has continued to grow. Products such as the Detian (China) – Ban Gioc (Vietnam) cross-border waterfall tourism area have entered regular operation, thus supporting bilateral tourism exchanges.

According to the Border Management Bureau of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, total cross-border entries and exits through border gates in the region reached 4.347 million in the first quarter of this year, up 19.7% year-on-year. At Dongxing border gate alone, more than 3,200 Vietnamese tourist groups were recorded, with the number of cross-border tour groups rising sharply.

This activity provides a learning platform on AI applications and cross-border tourism development for Vietnam’s tourism workforce, while creating a basis for building shared tourism information platforms, developing smart tourism products and strengthening data links between the two sides in the coming period.
