Children with disabilities get gifts ahead of UN Day of Vesak 2025

VOV.VN - The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, in coordination with the Ministry of Ethnic and Religious Affairs, on May 5 visited and presented gifts to children with disabilities at the Centre for Rehabilitation and Assistance for Disable Children in Ho Chi Minh City, as part of the UN Day of Vesak 2025.

At the event, Most Venerable Thich Hue Thong, vice president of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, noted that in the sacred atmosphere of Vesak and the joyful celebration of the 50th anniversary of national reunification, the charity reflects the Buddhist spirit of compassion and the Vietnamese tradition of solidarity and kindness.

“These children should have been in school, learning and playing like other kids. Unfortunately, they are living with illnesses and disadvantages. We all have a responsibility to help ease their pain, support their rehabilitation, and help them reintegrate into life, so they too can learn, play, and enjoy their childhood,” said the Buddhist dignitary.

To spread the message of love and compassion, the Vesak 2025 Organising Committee presented 230 gift packages worth VND1.5 million each to children with disabilities in difficult circumstances at the Centre.

According to Dr. Nguyen Xuan Thang, director of the centre, the institution has provided functional rehabilitation treatment to over 910,000 children with disabilities, cared for more than 14,000 orphans and children from disadvantaged families in Ho Chi Minh City and southern provinces, rehabilitated over 11,000 children suffering from malnutrition, and conducted professional training courses for over 5,600 caregivers and healthcare workers.

Ho Chi Minh City is playing host to the United Nations Day of Vesak 2025 themed “Unity and Inclusivity for Human Dignity: Buddhist Insights for World Peace and Sustainable Development.”
