Child adoption registration fee announced

Foreigners residing in Vietnam will have to pay a registration fee of VND4.5 million (US$204) to adopt a Vietnamese child, the same level for foreigners residing in border areas of neighbouring countries who wish to adopt a Vietnamese child in border localities.

Under a new decree issued recently by the Government, a fee of VND9 million (US$409) will be applied for each Vietnamese child adoption registration by Vietnamese nationals abroad and foreigners living outside Vietnam.

The cost is US$150 for registration at Vietnam’s representatives offices abroad.

Registration for domestic child adoption will cost VND400,000 (around US$20) a case.

The People’s Committee at communes will be in charge of collecting the fee for domestic child adoption cases and from foreigners living in border areas of neighbouring countries who adopt Vietnamese children in border localities.

The Department of Justice at provinces and cities will collect registration fees by foreigners living in Vietnam who adopt Vietnamese children.

The Department of Adoption under the Ministry of Justice will collect registration fees for adopting foreign children.
