Car parked in Hanoi airport bursts into flames, killing driver

A car parked inside the Terminal T2 at the Noi Bai International Airport suddenly caught fire and burst into flames at first light on September 14, killing the driver inside.

The incident took place at 0:45 am, with the fire, engulfing the four-seater car belonging to the Hanoi airport’s flight dispatching center, extinguished in two minutes, the airport’s administrative office confirmed later the same day.

The driver failed to escape from the vehicle and died on the spot.

It was not immediately clear how the car, which was parked at the time of accident, caught fire, as well as why the driver could not make it out of the vehicle.

Noi Bai airport managers asserted that the fire did not affect flight safety and operations, as well as other assets at the airdrome.

The airport authorities are investigating further.
