Cao Bang border guards break up human trafficking ring
VOV.VN - Border guard forces based in the northern province of Cao Bang have arrested three suspects involved in a human trafficking ring.
According to details of the arrests, officers of the Tra Linh Border Station discovered that a 12-year-old girl, who was among 21 Vietnamese nationals handed over by Chinese authorities, had been a victim of a human trafficking ring.
Upon expanding the investigation, the Cao Bang border guard forces arrested Nguyen Thi Lai, the victim’s 28-year-old cousin, residing in Vi Thanh City in the Mekong Delta province of Hau Giang.
Lai, who married a Chinese man, returned to the nation in May to visit her relatives. During that time she colluded with the victim’s family to sell her to a Chinese national nicknamed “Map” for CNY130,900, equal to VND400 million.
The victim’s family received VND150 million and a one gold bar worth VND60 million, while Lai got the remainder of the money.
Map, who was later identified as 29-year-old Trieu Thanh Long of Zhejiang province in China, and the victim’s mother, a 38-year-old resident of Dinh Mon commune in Thoi Lai district of Can Tho City, were later arrested by border guards.
A further investigation into the case is currently underway.
