Canada supports development projects in Soc Trang

VOV.VN - The Canadian Embassy in Vietnam and the Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang on June 14 marked 22 years of the partnership between Soc Trang and Canada and reviewed the results of the Canadian-funded SME development project.

Addressing the ceremony, Canadian Ambassador Shawn Steil noted that Soc Trang is an important partner in the Canadian Government’s international support program.

Over the past 22 years, he said the Canadian Government has funneled more than CAD22 million into development projects in Soc Trang, significantly contributing to local socio-economic development.

These projects were focused on developing small-scale infrastructure and services, enhancing environmental protection capacity, improving rural people’s life and quality of crops and livestock.

Notably, a project to develop small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) was implemented in 11 districts and towns of Soc Trang from June 2011 to December 2021 at a total cost of CAD10.2 million, including CAD9.2 million injected by the Canadian Government.

The project helped foster connection between smallholder farmers, businesses and the market, form a sustainable supply chain, and harmonize the interests of producers and other actors in the chain, according to Lam Hoang Nghiep, vice chairman of the provincial administration.

Representatives of the Canadian Embassy and the Soc Trang provincial administration presented awards to collectives and individuals in recognition of their contributions to the success of the funded projects in the locality.
