Bus carrying charity group overturns in Lao Cai, killing nine
VOV.VN - A serious traffic accident occurred in Lao Cai on December 27 when a passenger bus carrying a charity group from Hanoi overturned, leaving nine people dead.
The bus was transporting around 20 volunteers on a trip to deliver gifts to children in mountainous areas when it crashed at around 7:40 a.m. at Km35 on the road linking National Highway 32 with provincial road 174, in Mu Thap hamlet, Phinh Ho commune, according to a representative of the Traffic Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security. The vehicle was traveling from Hanoi to Lao Cai at the time.
Initial assessments indicate that the accident occurred on a long, steep and hazardous downhill section. The bus is believed to have suffered brake failure while descending the slope, causing the driver to lose control before the vehicle overturned at the foot of the hill.
Relevant agencies confirmed that nine people died in the crash. Several others were injured, with some passengers trapped inside the overturned and heavily damaged vehicle.
Emergency responders in Lao Cai province were immediately dispatched to the scene. Using specialized equipment, rescue teams cut open the wreckage to free those trapped, while the injured were taken to hospital for treatment.
The Traffic Police Department is working with Lao Cai provincial police to investigate the incident and determine its exact cause.
