Bualoi landfall: Two fishing vessels with 11 on board sink off Quang Tri
VOV.VN - Two fishing boats carrying 11 crew members capsized early on September 28 while attempting to enter Cua Viet estuary in Quang Tri province to seek shelter from Typhoon Bualoi, according to local authorities.

At 5 a.m. the two vessels, registered as BV 4670-TS and BV 0042-TS, were in distress near the Cua Viet estuary, about 1.5 kilometers from shore. One vessel sank after being struck by strong waves, while the other became stranded with engine failure and a broken hull, said a relative of a boat owner.
Upon receiving the report, the Cua Viet Border Guard dispatched a 10-member rescue team to coordinate with local authorities and fishermen to launch an emergency operation.
By 9:00 a.m., rescuers managed to save eight fishermen from the stranded vessel near the northern bank of the estuary. The survivors were brought ashore and given initial medical care.
However, three crew members from the sunken boat on the southern side of the estuary remain missing. One was last seen clinging to a buoy offshore, while two others were swept away by waves. Search and rescue efforts are ongoing.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Anh, Political Commissar of the Cua Viet Border Guard Station, said nearly 100 personnel from the Border Guard, police, Coast Guard Fleet 2, and local fishermen are involved in the rescue.
Present at the site, Secretary of the Quang Tri Provincial Party Committee Le Ngoc Quang said rescue forces are on standby and ready, but operations must wait until wind and waves subside to ensure safety.
According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, Bualoi is moving at an unusually fast pace, with sustained winds of more than 130 km/h, and covering a wide area. It is expected to batter the coastal region from Ha Tinh to Thua Thien-Hue and then make landfall between Nghe An and Quang Tri late September 28 before weakening into a tropical depression.
Bualoi is expected to bring heavy rain, strong winds, flashfloods, landslides, and widespread flooding in central Vietnam.
