Broken undersea cable linked to Vietnam to be fixed in November

VOV.VN - AAE-1, a broken undersea cable connecting the nation’s Internet to the world, is scheduled to be fixed from November 23 to November 28, according to an Internet service provider (ISP) said.

The AAE-1 undersea optical cable route broke down on September 27, impacting internet connections from Vietnam to the world.

During this time, another undersea fiber optic cable route the Asia Pacific Gateway, or APG, also recorded an incident, but it was then fixed on September 30.

Officially put into operation in July 2017, the AAE-1 undersea fiber optic cable has improved connection quality towards Europe and the Middle East, as well as providing additional capacity to the connection with Hong Kong (China) and Singapore.

Vietnam currently has five undersea cables connecting with the rest of the world. In February, all five cables encountered issues at the same time.

The country is expected to have four to six new undersea cables by 2030, according to the Vietnam Telecommunications Authority (VNTA).

Telecommunications company Viettel said it would utilise the ADC cable by the end of the year, while VNPT said it would utilize the SJC 2 cable.

Last month FPT Telecom also approved an investment initiative for the ALC undersea cable project.
