British tourist detained for stabbing police officer in Mui Ne
VOV.VN - A British tourist has been detained in Mui Ne ward, Lam Dong province, following an attack on a local police officer, said local police.
The incident occurred around 11:40 p.m. on March 18, after a traffic collision involving a taxi and the tourist’s motorcycle. Initial reports indicate that the motorcyclist, Damian Shrimanker, 34, was intoxicated and responsible for the collision.
Two police officers were dispatched to the scene to investigate the incident. While attempting to communicate with the tourist in English, Major Pham Nguyen Duc Lam was suddenly attacked with a knife by the British national. The suspect then fled on his motorcycle.
The injured officer was rushed to hospital, where his conditions have since stabilised under ongoing medical supervision.
Authorities launched an immediate manhunt. By early morning on March 19, authorities tracked down and arrested the suspect while he was hiding in Tan Minh commune, near the border with Dong Nai province, more than 70 km from the scene.
Colonel Dau Xuan Bao, deputy director of the Lam Dong Provincial Police, oversaw the operation and ordered a thorough investigation. The case remains under further investigation, and the suspect is in police custody.
