Biggest spring blood donation festival to kick off on February 18

VOV.VN - The Xuan Hong (Red Spring) Festival, the biggest annual blood donation campaign in Vietnam, is scheduled to begin on February 18, the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion (NIHBT) has said.

Accordingly, the week-long event themed “Donating blood in spring, multiplying happiness” will take place at three venues across Hanoi -  the NIHBT, the Trau Quy Secondary School, and AEON Mall Ha Dong.

Organised by the National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion and the Hanoi Steering Committee for Voluntarily Blood Donation Mobilisation, the annual event aims to collect at least 8,000 units of blood from donors, mainly young people and students.

The activity will further contribute to addressing blood shortages for treatment after the recent Lunar New Year holiday, and especially raising public awareness about voluntary blood donation.

Last year saw the blood donation event attract hundreds of thousands of donors, receiving 11,708 units of blood.

The NIHBT says it needs at least 80,000 units of blood, including 40,000 units of blood type O, during the first two months of 2024, for its distributions to more than 180 medical facilities in 31 provinces and cities nationwide.
