ASEAN Armies Rifle Meet concludes

(VOV) - Closing ceremonies for the 25th ASEAN Armies Rifle Meet (AARM) were held on November 25 at the Military Tactical Shooting Range at Thanarat Camp, Hua Hin in Bangkok, according to military officials.

Colonel Pham Van Quan represented Vietnam at the meet and at the ceremony attended by commanding officers and chiefs of land forces from all 10 ASEAN countries.

The day’s events started off with the finals of Rifle Match 5, followed by a group photo session for all land force chiefs. They then participated in a Novelty Shoot in the Pistol Falling Plate and Carbine Falling Vase categories.

To commemorate the prestigious event, all of the chiefs then partook in a tree planting ceremony to symbolize the putting down of roots, longevity and joining together of the military forces for a common goal of peace through strength.

The day’s events concluded with the lowering of the official competition flag, which was then handed to the Republic of Philippines contingent who will host next year’s meet.

Colonel Pham Van Quan said Vietnam finished in a respectable third place among the 10 ASEAN countries, after Thailand and Indonesia who finished in first and second, respectively.

During the competition, the 55 member Vietnam team succeeded in obtaining one gold, three silver and four bronze medals.

Colonel Quan said the AARM competition is intended to be a meeting point where participants can explore their potential in an atmosphere of healthy competition while also serving to bolster ties of friendship and understanding.
