APSDA 2025 honours Vietnamese designer-educator for first time
VOV.VN - Dr. Luu Viet Thang, a Vietnamese designer and educator has received the highest honour from the Asia-Pacific Space Design Association (APSDA) for the first time, underscoring Vietnam’s rising stature in regional design education.

At the APSDA Awards 2025 held recently in Manila, Philippines, Dr. Thang, Head of the Interior and Exterior Design Faculty at the University of Industrial Fine Arts, was named “Design Educator of the Year.”
He was one of four individuals honoured in APSDA’s "Personality of the Year" system and the sole Vietnamese recipient.
This award affirms the rising stature of Vietnamese design education in the region and acknowledges Dr. Thang’s extensive contributions to innovating teaching methods, fostering community connections, and inspiring generations of interior design students.
With over 20 years dedicated to teaching and research, he has built a comprehensive educational ecosystem integrating theory, practice, and professional networking. He also founded the Young Interior Designers Community (YIDC), which unites students and lecturers from nearly 30 universities nationwide alongside businesses and industry experts.
Under his leadership, professional activities such as ID Talk, ID Forum, ID Tour, and the Vietnam Interior Design Student Awards (ISA) have become important platforms that enhance training quality and creativity in the field. Moreover, Dr. Thang has expanded international exchanges, helping Vietnamese interior design integrate deeply into the regional design landscape.
The “Design Educator of the Year” award coincides with the 60th anniversary of the Interior-Exterior Design Faculty at the University of Industrial Fine Arts, marking a significant milestone for Vietnam’s interior design industry on the Asia design map.
