Anti-State propagandist to be brought to trial in Hanoi

The Hanoi People’s Court is set to open a trial on November 4 for a 43-year-old woman charged with “conducting propaganda against the State of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam”.

In its indictment, the municipal People’s Procuracy said from November 16, 2017 to December 5, 2018, Pham Thi Doan Trang, born in 1978 and residing in the city’s Dong Da district, made, stored, and distributed documents and articles with anti-State content. In her interviews given to foreign media outlets, she distorted the State’s guidelines and policies, defamed the people’s administration, and spread fabricated information, stirring public concern.

Trang confessed she was the author of the so-called report on the law on belief and religion in Vietnam, and that she and others created this report in English, then translated it into Vietnamese, and posted on their website.

The procuracy held that Trang must hold criminal liability since she repeatedly made, stored, and distributed documents with content against the State of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
