Ambassador accentuates locality-to-locality cooperation as foundation for Vietnam-Thailand ties

VOV.VN - Co-operation among Vietnamese and Thai localities and people-to-people exchange can be viewed as the foundations for long-standing Vietnam-Thailand relations, Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Pham Viet Hung affirmed during his working trip to several provinces in northeast Thailand from October 7 to October 10.

Meeting with the Vietnamese communities of Ubon Ratchathani, Amnat Charoen, and Yasothon provinces, the Vietnamese diplomat showed his elation at the stable life that Vietnamese people enjoy, contributing to the development of the host country and diplomatic relations.

"It’s also so great to see Vietnamese people in Thailand preserving the fine traditions and cultural values of the Vietnamese people," he said.

During the course of the working trip, Ambassador Hung met and worked alongside the Governor of Ubon Ratchathani province and the acting Governor of Nakhon Phanom province, as well as the provincial administrative agencies.

At the meetings, the local diplomat assessed that joint ties are seeing positive developments, with greater co-operation between both nations’ localities and people-to-people exchanges serving as the foundations for relations.

Ubon Ratchathani and Nakhon Phanom provinces have launched a broad array of co-operative activities with Vietnamese localities in trade, tourism, and education, he said, while affirming that the Embassy always stays ready to act as a bridge in which to further enhance collaboration efforts.

As part of this occasion, he thanked the people and authorities of the two provinces for offering favourable conditions for the Vietnamese community to stabilize their lives, increase integration in local societies, and contribute more to the development of the provinces.

Governor of Ubon Ratchathani province Supasit Kocharoenyot stated that the locality has signed co-operation agreements with Vietnam’s Quang Nam and Quang Tri provinces, whilst it has also held exchange activities with other localities in Vietnam such as Kon Tum and Thua Thien - Hue.

He also said that many businessmen of Vietnamese origin are contributing to the province's economy. In the future, the locality plans to organise meetings between Thai and Vietnamese businessmen to further strengthen connections.

Additionally, Ubon Ratchathani Royal University has also signed co-operation agreements with universities in the nation, regularly organising sporting and cultural exchanges.

Acting Governor of Nakhon Phanom province Ranida Luengthitisakul said that the Vietnamese community is a large foreign community in the province.

The Thai - Vietnamese Association of the province has also made important contributions to the development of the locality, she said, adding the President Ho Chi Minh Memorial built by the Vietnamese community in the province has become a tourist attraction.

The provincial leader said that Nakhon Phanom has co-operative activities with Vietnamese localities in tourism, education, import, and export. In particular, Nakhon Phanom University has signed co-operation deals with many universities in Vietnam, most recently Vinh University and Ha Tinh University. Over the past 20 years, the school has received nearly 1,000 Vietnamese students.

The Vietnamese communities in Ubon Ratchathani, Amnat Charoen, and Yasothon provinces number 2,000, 300, and 200 people, respectively.

Most overseas Vietnamese enjoy stable economies, many of whom are successful and have a certain prestige in local society. They have established Vietnamese associations in each province, regularly organising meetings, cultural, artistic, and culinary exchanges with local people, thus contributing to preserving and promoting Vietnamese culture in Thailand.
