Airport bus launched in Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai province is introducing a new mode of transportation, the R3 bus, for travelers to and from the airport on April 5, 2018. The R3 bus service connects Chiang Mai airport with Nimman district in Chiang Mai city center.

The new route is scheduled to run every 20 minutes and will take 15-25 minutes to get to Nimmanhaemin, a famous attraction for tourists, and 35 minutes to Tha Pae Gate from the Airport.

All buses include WiFi. Its fare is 20 baht for any destination on the route and can be paid with cash or a Smart Card, which can be purchased at the airport and on the bus.

The Smart Card is provided by Rabbit, which can also be used on the BTS in Bangkok and Phuket’s smart bus.

Buses will run daily from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 midnight.

The new bus route is provided by Regional Transit Co., Ltd. The introduction of the new public transport system is in line with the province's Smart Growth strategy, which seeks to curtail the use of private vehicles and encourage urban development in a sustainable, smarter direction.
