Activities mark 326th founding anniversary of Sai Gon-Cho Lon-Gia Dinh-HCM City

A ceremony was held on Ho Chi Minh City’s Nguyen Hue walking street on June 28 evening to kick off a series of activities celebrating the 326th founding anniversary of Sai Gon-Cho Lon-Gia Dinh-HCM City (1698 - 2024) and 48 years since Sai Gon-Gia Dinh city was officially named after President Ho Chi Minh (July 2, 1976 - 2024).

According to Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of HCM City Pham Minh Tuan, this event aims to recall the nation's heroic traditions, introduce the city’ construction and development achievements, and join hands with the entire country in building new-style rural areas, preserving cultural identity, and honouring the role of families in social life.

Taking place at the District 1 pedestrian street in five days, the activities feature performances of the “don ca tai tu” art form (southern amateur singing), a cultural and artistic space for water puppetry, traditional folk games, exhibitions of images and video clips about HMC City, and displays of modern agricultural models and OCOP (One Commune One Product) products.

On this occasion, the southern largest economic hub is planning to honour 114 outstanding cultural and happy families of 2024 to mark Vietnam Family Day (June 28).
