Action month on occupational safety targets better workplace safety
VOV.VN - Vietnam will organise its 2026 National Action Month on Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) from May 1 to 31, with a focus on innovating management and improving the effectiveness of occupational safety and health in the digital era.
The information was announced at a meeting of the Central Steering Committee for the OSH Action Month held in Hanoi on April 3.
According to the plan, the action month will be held in conjunction with Workers’ Month, with an official launching ceremony scheduled for April 24 in Quang Ninh province.
A highlight of this year’s programme will be an emergency response drill simulating methane gas explosions and coal dust incidents, jointly organised by Quang Ninh authorities and the Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group.
Vu Trong Binh, director of the Employment Department under the Ministry of Home Affairs, said the campaign nitiative aims to comprehensively reform occupational safety management from central to local levels, covering both public agencies and enterprises.
He noted that the reform would be closely linked to digital transformation, shifting safety management from manual processes to modern, data-driven systems supported by digital technologies and artificial intelligence.
Throughout the month, a wide range of activities will be held nationwide, including conferences, seminars and policy dialogues; exhibitions showcasing safety equipment and personal protective gear; visits to victims of occupational accidents and diseases; as well as strengthened inspections at enterprises and workplaces.
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Nguyen Manh Khuong called for closer integration between the launching ceremony and thematic activities, policy dialogues, worker welfare initiatives and communication efforts to ensure the campaign becomes a nationwide peak period for raising awareness and changing behaviour regarding workplace safety.
He emphasised that the Action Month is not merely a communication campaign, but a reminder of the responsibility to protect workers’ lives. Improved awareness and behavioural change, he said, would help make safety a sustainable foundation for all production activities.
Since 2025, Vietnam has organised the combined Action Month on Occupational Safety and Health and Workers’ Month nationwide, aiming to enhance compliance with OSH regulations among employers and employees. The initiative focuses on risk assessment, hazard identification and the implementation of safety measures at workplace.
The programme is jointly launched by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour and the Central Steering Committee on OSH, with the goal of creating tangible improvements in awareness and practice of occupational safety and health across enterprises and production facilities.
