ABU elects new Secretary General

The announcement was made by the ABU Administrative Council after a meeting in New Delhi on 24 November 2022.

Nadeem hailing from the Maldives is currently Director of ABU Technology & Innovation. He will succeed Dr Javad Mottaghi, who has been Secretary-General since May 2010 and completes his term at the end of March 2023.

Nadeem will take up the position on 1 April 2023.

The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union was established in 1964 as a not-for-profit, non-government, non-political, professional association with mandate to assist the development of broadcasting in the region.

The ABU promotes the collective interests of television and radio broadcasters as well as key industry players and facilitate regional and international media cooperation. The Union serves its diverse members with tailored capacity-building in news, sports, programming and technology.

Currently, the ABU has over 250 members in over 70 countries on four continents. It runs a wide range of services for its members.

The ABU General Assembly is held annually in member countries on a rotating basis to promote radio and television cooperation among member stations in the region, as well as to honor those who make outstanding contributions to the industry.

The Voice of Vietnam (VOV) has since joining the grouping in 1964 participated actively and responsibly in the ABU’s activities.

Since 2010, it has won the ABU Prizes that are the most prestigious programme awards in the Asia-Pacific region that honour the best Radio, Television and New Media contents from ABU member organisations.

This year, VOV submitted nine works to the ABU competition, with three of them winning the ABU 2022 Prizes.
