77 people killed in traffic accidents over six days of Tet

VOV.VN - A total of 133 traffic accidents have occurred in Vietnam during the first six days of the lunar New Year (Tet) break from January 20 to January 25, leaving 77 dead and 96 injured.

According to the National Traffic Safety Committee, janury 25 alone saw 26 traffic accidents happen, killing 15 people and injuring 19 others. 

Compared to the same period from last year, the number of accidents declined by 10 cases and deaths dropped by six, but injuries climbed by 10.  

Most of the traffic accidents occurred on the road, claiming more than 60 lives.

The committee also reported that four railway accidents happened, killing four people and injuring one during the reviewed period, while there was one waterway accident leaving one injured.

Over the reviewed period, up to 5,171 drivers were found to have exceeded the legal limit for drunk driving, up 4,321 cases against the same period last year. 

Most notably, there were 14 drivers exceeding the speed limit while driving vehicles on highways. However, the committee didn’t detect any violations on national waterways.
