748 soldiers killed in Cambodia finally home

VOV.VN - Vietnam and Cambodia officials have signed minutes of the 15th meeting of the Vietnamese and Cambodian special task committees on the search  and repatriation of the remains of Vietnam soldiers who died in Cambodia in the past war.

At a meeting in Ho Chi Minh City on July 25, Deputy Minister of Defence, Lieutenant General Le Chiem expressed his sincere appreciation for Cambodian assistance in searching for and repatriating remains of Vietnam soldiers.

Seang Lapress, undersecretary of state at the Ministry of Interior, in turn said the two sides have closely coordinated in collecting the remains of Vietnam soldiers and hope that close coordination will bring about better results in the coming time.

At the meeting, the two sides reviewed the results of search efforts for the remains of Vietnam soldiers in the 2015-2016 dry season and agreed on plans for the 2016-2017 dry season.

In the 2015-2016 dry season, 784 remains of Vietnam soldiers were found and laid at their final resting place in the homeland.

There are still more remains in Prey Veng, Kom Speu, T Pong Khmun, and Kampong Cham, however, the retrieval of soldiers’ remains is still difficult due to a lack of information.

The two sides agreed to continue to implement contents of the minutes signed in the 14th meeting last year and strive to bring home all of soldiers who died on foreign soil, whenever it is humanly and scientifically possible.
