30 more fresh infections, with 27 related to Da Nang outbreak

VOV.VN - The Ministry of Health on August 6 afternoon confirmed 30 more new cases of COVID-19, with 20 detected in Da Nang, 6 in nearby Quang Nam, 1 in Bac Giang linked to Da Nang hotspot, and 3 which were imported in Ba Ria - Vung Tau.

Of the total, patient 718 was a 67 year- old woman in Da Nang who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 at the end of August 6 morning, and died the same day.

The 26 fresh cases confirmed in Da Nang and Quang Nam include patients,care takers, a medical worker and those having close contact with infected people related to hospitals based in the central city.

The case in the northern province of Bac Giang, known as patient 744, came into close contact with the previously infected patients from the same group travelling to Da Nang together with those positive for the virus in Lang Son. Currently the patient is being kept in quarantine to receive treatment at the National Hospital of Tropical Diseases.

The three cases in Ba Ria - Vung Tau (patients 745, 746, 747) are related to Texiana gas tanker from Qatar to Vung Tau Port on July 28 and they later tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 virus.  They are now being isolated for treatment at the Medical Center of Long Dien District, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province.

The same day, 11 coronavirus patients were declared to have fully recovered from the deadly disease, taking the national tally of recoveries to 392 with a recovery rate of 52.5%.

Among the active patients in treatment, 33 have tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 virus once or at least twice.

There have been more than 173,450 having close contact with COVID-19 patients or returning from pandemic-hit areas are now under quarantine and health monitoring.

At a meeting of the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control held in Hanoi on August 6, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, head of the committee underscored preventive measures to be taken soon to contain the virus spread in the wider community as the fast growing number of new COVID-19 cases is anticipated over the next coming days.

Meanwhile, acting Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long said the ministry is stepping up every effort to handle the outbreak in Da Nang while ordering  health facilities and hospitals nationwide to fully carry out preventive regulations such as wearing face masks, using sanitizer, and strictly following social distancing measures.

By August 6 afternoon, Vietnam recorded 747 COVID-19 cases, including 34 fresh ones in a single day, 10 deaths, and more than 295 locally-transmitted infections since July 25.
