230kg bomb recovered from Ha Tinh River
A 230kg bomb was salvaged from the Hoi Tren riverbed in Thach Son Commune, Thach Ha District of the north central province of Ha Tinh, during construction of a sewage and canal system.
The bomb is 1.4m in length, 0.28m in diameter and weighs some 230kg.
Apprised of the information, Thach Ha Military Command and local authorities coordinated with the 319 Corporation (under the Ministry of Defence) to deactivate the bomb.
Coded MK82, the general-purpose bomb was reportedly made in 1972 and dropped in the area when the US Army escalated bombing of northern Vietnam.
According to the Military Command of Thach Ha District, there likely remains a large quantity of unexploded ordnance in the area.
