2,000 pupils off school after teacher contacts COVID-19 patient

VOV.VN - The administration of District 6 in Ho Chi Minh City permitted over 2,000 pupils to remain absent from school on December 1 after a teacher came into contact with COVID-19 patient No.1,347 who was confirmed by the Ministry of Health on November 30.

The absent students are from Vo Van Tan and Nguyen Hue primary schools in District 6, according to Luu Hong Uyen, head of District 6’s education and training division.

The decision comes after patient No.1,347 visited a teacher from Vo Van Tan primary school, who stayed with three other colleagues from Vo Van Tan and Nguyen Hue primary schools.

Uyen said both schools were now waiting to receive the test results of the four teachers to determine if the pupils are able to return to school or continue to stay at home.

The country’s patient No.1,347 is a 32-year-old man who is a teacher from Key English centre in Tan Binh District and District 10.

Following the news of the latest case, Key English centre announced that they are halting all classes between November 30 and December 14 in an effort to keep their students safe.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training requested on December 1 that all local schools check their managers, teachers, students, and families to see if they have ties to the newly-detected COVID-19 patient.

It has also asked schools to carry out COVID-19 prevention and control measures, including disinfecting classrooms, arranging places for hand washing, and forcing teachers and students to wear face masks.
