17 out of 18 fresh coronavirus infections related to Da Nang
VOV.VN - The Ministry of Heath on August 4 afternoon reported the detection of a further 18 new coronavirus infections, including 17 linked to central Da Nang city a major outbreak spot in Vietnam, and one returning from Equatorial Guinea.
The fresh cases, numbered from 653 to 668, aged between 8 and 93, are connected to a number of hospitals based in central Da Nang city.
Patient 669 is a 50 year- old man residing in Bien Hoa City of Dong Nai province. He is a doctor of Dong Nai General Hospital who came into close contact with a relative (patient 510) at Da Nang Hospital. Currently he is being isolated for treatment at Dong Nai Lung Hospital.
Patient 670 is also a 50- year- old man from the northern province of Thanh Hoa. The patient is among 219 Vietnamese workers who were brought home via a repatriation flight from Equatorial Guinea on July 29. He returned from Equatorial Guinea to Noi Bai Airport on flight VN6 that earlier recorded 20 positive cases.
The patient was put in quarantine to undergo treatment at the National Hospital of Tropical Diseases shortly upon arrival after his second test result was positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
These new infections has brought the number of cases linked to Da Nang hotspot to 222.
The same day, the Centre for Disease Control in the northern province of Hoa Binh announced the discharge of four COVID-19 patients, taking the national count of recoveries up to 378 cases, with a recovery rate of 54.6%. The four recovered patients were among 85 Vietnamese students returning to Vietnam from Russia on July 17, and tested negative for the virus three times before receiving a discharge.
According to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, among those who are undergoing treatment, 18 have tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 once, and 13 negative at least twice.
More than 133,270 people coming into close contact with the infected patients or returning from pandemic-hit regions are placed into isolation, with 1,258 at hospitals, and the remainder at concentrated sites and at their home or places of residence.
By August 4 afternoon, the overall number of coronavirus infections nationwide has increased to 670, with 8 fatalities, and 253 in treatment.
Da Nang, the locality that recorded the first community-associated case since July 25, is speeding up mass testing for COVID-19 across residential areas, with testing capacity raising up to 7,000 people per day.
